As this is “partial disclosures” I admittedly filter what I post about my life. And while much of it fits into the whinging category, I do fall into the internet trap of trying to paint my life as being more rosy that it often is.
Case in point: I have been very ill since Halloween. It’s now December 20th.
It started with a sore throat as I took the kids up and down our street trick-or-treating. Two days later, with sinus pressure and mucus, I thought I’d caught another virus from the kids.
Three weeks after taking cold pills all day everyday and barely making it through, I went to see my doctor thinking it wasn’t viral, but a bacterial infection. The doctor agreed that that is what it looked like. She prescribed me a course of antibiotics. Two days after the antibiotics course, I was still feeling awful. I stepped up using my neti pot and bought some adrenal support vitamins at the hippie-vegetarian-worker-owned co-op grocery.
Violet asked where I was, and Hazel answered, “Mommy is using the watering can on her face again.” (neti pot)
Before Thanksgiving, I went back to the doctor. All my symptoms still pointed to sinus infection. Thinking I might have some sort of super evil anti-biotic strain, she prescribed a new course that she described as a “bacteria blasting Howitzer”.
And still my symptoms continued, unabated.
So yesterday I went to see an ear, nose & throat specialist.
He did a nasal endoscopy. Fun!!!
Then he asked me if I wore a night guard due to teeth grinding.
He asked if I experienced a lot of stress.
What? With my two-year-old performing three hour tantrums daily?
Turns out, I don’t have a nasal problem. I have a Hazel problem.
I’ve been clenching my jaw so hard without noticing it that it has made all the surrounding tissues inflamed, creating headaches, sinus pressure, inner ear pressure, and that has caused all the mucus.
What can I do about it?
You do yoga?
Try more of that.
